cūra comb [pale copper blue]

$390.00
Only 1 available

kilnformed glass comb
15 cm x 7.5 cm x 1.1 cm

an object that celebrates the profound intimacy and connection that comes from the ritual act of combing hair. a reference to ancient combs often found in burial tombs across many cultures. inspired by my love of the sea and it’s healing power. the teeth were designed to suggest the contours of fingers but also mineral formations. there are 9 teeth—a significant number in my life and one that represents the completion of a cycle and the beginning of another.

especially good for detangling and styling wet + damp hair, but can also be used on dry hair. feels beautiful on skin and scalp. the sound of the glass on the hair has a grounding effect.

each one is uniquely handmade.

the Latin of the word cure — cūra — means anxiety

it is also the root of:
care to have cares, to be anxious
curiosity an anxious inquisitiveness
secure without anxiety and care

♥︎♥︎♥︎

i missed the way a lover used to comb my hair, so i created these combs as a tool to disentangle and transform my grief into a beautiful tool for connection.

they are meant to be used lovingly: slowly, gently, and intentionally as as an act of care for oneself, between lovers or loved ones.

i am learning that so much about life is about letting go. the materiality of these combs in glass makes them both enduring and fragile. holding them—using them—is a reminder to consider what we hold on to, what we let go of. how we hold ourselves. how we hold others.

♥︎ source: thank you to Maria Popova for her work in helping me to understand and love my anxiety a bit more
